This is my favourite green juice of all time. It’s subtly sweet from the apples, savory from the spinach and parsley, salty from the celery, light and refreshing from the cucumber, and with just a hint of sour from the lemon.
Most importantly this juice is so healthy and alkaline, hence the name alkalizing green juice. This juice can be consumed on an empty stomach; it will give you tonnes of energy, and make you feel full and satisfied.
Lets get to it; this recipe makes approximately 32 ounces. I usually have this for breakfast but feel free to divide all the ingredients in half if it’s too much.
Serves one
- 4-6 apples
- 2 lemons
- 1 handful of parsley
- 6-10 ribs of celery
- 1 whole cucumber
- 2 cups of spinach (or any other leafy green of your choice)*Place everything in a juicer and enjoy!
What does alkaline mean?
By definition ‘alkaline’ means having a ph greater than 7. Our bodies also have ph levels when it comes to our stomachs, which are acidic and have a ph level of 3.5 or lower in order to break down food, and our blood has a ph level, which is slightly alkaline between 7.35-7.45. Your pee and saliva also have ph levels, these levels change depending on what you eat and its how your body maintains healthy blood. Diseases form in acidic environments, which is why it’s so important to maintain an alkaline diet and therefore body. Acidic foods include but are not limited to alcohol, meat, and processed foods. Alkaline foods include but are not limited to every ingredient in this juice; lemons, apples, parsley, celery, cucumber, and kale.
What makes this green juice so alkalizing?
Well the ingredients of course. Each ingredient has been carefully selected based on its alkaline properties. You may know lemons as citric acid but when they enter the body its actually quite contrary and makes the body very alkaline. The mineral content in lemons contains calcium, magnesium, potassium and selenium, after the citric acid is eliminated from the body through sweat, the body is left with all the alkaline properties of the lemon. Additionally, parsley, spinach, celery, and cucumber all fall within highly alkaline foods, which contain a ph level between 9 and 10. Also, apples are an alkaline fruit that have a ph level between 8 and 9.
