The Most Amazing Chocolate Mylkshake

August 3, 2014

I created this recipe because my favourite treat growing up was a milkshake. I realized that milkshakes are not always the healthiest option, but they’re SO GOOD. I have tried to make myself healthy milkshakes but nothing ever compared to the sugary dairy ones. Until now.

This concoction I have put together is dairy free, refined sugar free, and completely healthy.

I usually blend this twice on high speed to give it a really smooth and creamy texture.

Here is the recipe that will forever change your life:

Serves one

  • 5 dates (pitted)
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tbs cacao powder
  • 1 tbs maple syrup or agave nectar
  • 1 tbs almond butter
  • 1 tbs coconut oil
  • 1 tbs cacao butter
  • 3 ice cubes
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • Pinch of raw vanilla bean powder

Health Benefits of Raw Cacao

Cacao pronounced ‘ca-cow’ is very different from conventional cocoa you may be used to. Raw cacao is unprocessed that still holds all of its antioxidants, essential vitamins, minerals, and offers a wide variety of health benefits, unlike processed cocoa which is left with nothing more then sugar and fat. Raw cacao contains essential minerals including calcium, sulfur, zinc, iron, copper, potassium magnesium and manganese. It also contains vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B9, and E. Additionally, raw cacao contains polyphenols or flavonoids, which have antioxidant properties, essential heart healthy fat such as oleic acid, as well as, protein and fiber. With all these nutrients in cacao some health benefits this provides are lowering blood pressure, improving digestion, improving heart health, protecting the nervous system, and protecting the body from free radicals.

Health Benefits of Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has so many uses from cooking oil, to body lotion moisturizer. The health benefits of unrefined extra virgin organic coconut oil should not be looked past. First off it is important that the coconut oil is unrefined, organic, and extra virgin because without all these properties the health benefits diminish. Back to the health benefits, coconut oil helps you burn fat by making you eat less and takes away the feeling of being hungry all while giving you energy. In addition coconut oil is anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal. Coconut oil improves cholesterol, supports a healthy heart, and boosts brain function.
