Immunity Booster Green Juice

January 27, 2018

When I first went vegan one of my first purchases was a juicer (and a blender). Before turning vegan I had never tried or drank a green juice, maybe because they weren’t trendy yet or maybe I just never cared for it. I can tell you now that juicing has nothing to do with being vegan.

I have talked to all sorts of people who are not vegan and not even health advocates who all enjoy a good juice.  Personally, when I drink a green juice packed full of veggies I get a spike of energy, I can literally feel a surge of this energetic buzz emanating throughout my body. In addition to making you feel amazing, there are SO many other health benefits to juicing such as getting your daily dose of vitamins and minerals through plant sources, reduce inflammation, easy on the digestive system, fights cancer, and detoxes the body, just to name a few.

Also, when I am feeling sick with a cold or flu I always make myself a green juice because it’s a great way to boost your immune system, drink fluids and it’s easy to digest because theres no fibre for your body to break down, all the minerals and vitamins get absorbed by the body immediately. I find that when I’m sick I don’t have much of an appetite because my body needs to focus on healing itself, not spending its energy breaking down and digesting food. This recipe I’m sharing with you today is specifically designed for when your not feeling well and need an immune booster.  Each ingredient has a purpose in this recipe.

Juices were all the hype at one point in time, then a couple years ago they got a bad wrap. There is much debate now on whether juices are good for you because of the high sugar content in them and lack of fibre.  Everyone should do their own research for what will work best for their bodies, however, much like the title of this recipe says, when it comes to needing an immediate immunity booster, I will always go for the juice. This juice recipe’s only fruit in it are green apples which have the lowest glycemic index of all the apple varieties. Who’s heard the saying an apple a day keeps the doctor away? Well thats why apples are an important ingredient in this recipe because of their high vitamin C content.

Other ingredients in this recipe include ginger because it loses phlegm, is anti-bacterial, and assists with nausea. Lemons are also very high in vitamin C and alkalizes the body. Kale contains vitamin C and delivers a high dose of antioxidants which helps fight infections. Celery provides lots of fluids for the body to combat dehydration. Cayenne pepper is a real miracle worker as it helps cool the body and aids in congestion relief.  All these ingredients together deliver a serious powerful health punch.

Even if your not sick this is still a great juice to drink on the regular especially as a preventative measure if you notice other people around you i.e. family, friends, coworkers are sick so you don’t get sick too!

Its also always a good idea to use organic produce when juicing because you are juicing the skins and having the least amount of pesticides on your foods is ideal. If organic is not an option then peel the produce.
